STATEMENT ON SEISMIC EVENT THAT OCCURRED IN THE NORTHERN CAPE PROVINCE
The Council for Geoscience (CGS) confirms that a seismic event occurred today, 13 August 2026, at approximately 13h30 SAST. Recordings from the South African National Seismograph Network (SANSN) indicate that this event registered a local magnitude (ML) of 3.2. The epicentre was located in the Northern Cape Province, approximately 50 km south of the town of Brandvlei and 60 km northwest of Williston.
The public is encouraged to record their experiences using the available online questionnaire.
