STATEMENT ON THE SEISMIC EVENT THAT OCCURRED IN THE FAR WEST RAND AREA
The Council for Geoscience (CGS) confirms that a seismic event occurred today, 14 February 2026, at approximately 03h25 SAST. Recordings from the South African National Seismograph Network (SANSN) indicate that this event registered local magnitudes (ML) of 2.4. The epicentre was located in the Far West Rand area.
The public is encouraged to record their experiences using the available online questionnaire. The CGS is the custodian of the SANSN, which monitors seismic wave activities throughout the country. For live updates, please visit www.geoscience.org.za
