The Bushveld geoscience mapping project will specifically focus on developing geological information to bridge knowledge gaps about the evolution and controls on magmatic and hydrothermal mineralising systems around the Bushveld Complex, in particular those linked to future energy technologies such as Sn-W, Cu-Pb-Zn and Ti-V. In addition, this project will characterise the previously undefined surficial geology in view of aiding effective land use applications.
Coverage of geological mapping to be undertaken within the Bushveld region. The areas targeted for mapping are concentrated around major mineralising systems.
Key objectives:
Defining the surficial geology and soils and characterising the fundamental geological controls on the evolution and concentration of magmatic and hydrothermal mineralising systems around the Bushveld Complex.
Supporting economic growth through geological and metallogenic mapping.
Characterising the metallogenic, geodynamic and geological setting of the Bushveld Complex.
Providing refined geochronological controls to very complex magmatic processes for the characterisation of PGE-Cr-V-Ni-Cu, Sn-W, Cu-Pb-Zn, Fe-F-U and other deposits.
