The Marine Geoscience Unit is a scientific research and commercial unit within the Council for Geoscience. The MGU specialises in marine, coastal and estuarine geophysical and geological survey and mapping.

Operations are managed from the Cape Town office, from which marine scientists, technical officers and laboratory technicians operate.

The dual scientific and commercial capability allows the Marine Geoscience Unit to develop and deploy innovative technology in a niche geophysical survey and geological research market. A variety of services are offered, utilising state-of-the-art marine geophysical and hydrographical survey equipment.
