A seismic event occurred late on Monday evening in the Springbok area of the Northern Cape Province, which caused concern in the local community.  The event registered 1.6 on the local Richter scale, which is below the usual reporting standard of 2.0 and higher, and therefore not initially reported by the CGS.  Data on the event may be viewed by clicking HERE.  It will be noted that the event is not readily evident on the seismogram trace, being too small and hidden in the background noise.
