Mineral Resources Development
The Mineral Resources Development Unit combines the skills of the CGS's economic geologists in an effort to better serve the goals of the organisation and the aims of the presidential imperatives in South Africa.

A vital component of the Council for Geoscience's statutory commitment is the gathering, generation, interpretation, usage, storage and dissemination of basic geological, geophisical, geochemical and mineral deposit information. The study of mineral deposits incorporates the nature, distribution, genesis and economic viability of mineral commodities. The Minerals Development Unit fullfils this role, prinicipally for the Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Free State provinces, though it also handles various national and international projects and initiatives.
