The Marine Geoscience Unit (MGU) is one of The Council for Geoscience's business and scientific research units. Work undertaken focuses on offshore marine, estuarine and beach work, in a scientific as well as a commercial capacity. Operations are from two strategic locations in South Africa - Durban and Cape Town.
The dual scientific and commercial ability allows The MGU to develop and deploy innovative technology in a niche geophysical survey and research market. For this work, The MGU has access to some of the best marine geophysical survey equipment in the world. Six skilled marine scientists, two highly trained marine technicians, a laboratory technician and personnel assistant operate the Durban and Cape Town based units.
