The mission of the Unit is the investigation, development and fostering of all geology-related aspects in the Northern Cape for the benefit of the people of the province.
The Northern Cape Unit offers a number of services to the general public. These include:

• Compilation of geological and metallogenic maps, as well as investigation of geophyiscal, geochemical and hydrological phenomena.

• Geological impact studies in terms of location of housing, subsurface water, sewage sites and nature conservation.

• Fulfilment of all needs with regards to general geology, engineering geology, geohydrology, geophysics and small scale mining.
